Beethoven Series - Recital No.9
This month's recital will feature Beethoven's 5th sonata in c minor, Op. 10 No. 1. This one marks a return for the composer (since the Electoral Sonatas) to a three-movement structure, which is an important step towards the various forms of experimentation that come in later sonatas. To celebrate this, I have created a program that consists entirely of 3-movement works. And to make the occasion extra festive, I've included works by composers of several different countries.
Here is the program:
Clementi - Sonatina in F major, Op. 36 No. 4
I. Con spirito
II. Andante con espressione
III. Rondo. Allegro vivace
Beethoven - Piano Sonata No. 5 in c minor, Op. 10 No. 1
I. Allegro molto e con brio
II. Adagio molto
III. Finale. Prestissimo
Poulenc - Trois Pièces
I. Pastorale
II. Toccata
III. Hymne
-Intermission-
Schumann - Drei Fantasiestücke, Op. 111
I. in c minor
II. in A-flat major
III. in c minor
Ireland - London Pieces
I. Chelsea Reach
II. Ragamuffin
III. Soho Forenoons
Prokofiev - Piano Sonata No. 7, Op. 83
I. Allegro inquieto
II. Andante caloroso
III. Precipitato
