Dances at MuCCC: Moving Margins to the Center, is a highly original festival of contemporary dance. Since 2014, Dances at MuCCC has been the only dance festival in Rochester to raise-up the voices of contemporary dance artists whose art exists to share a human message. Happening at a cultural, community theater (MuCCC), all selected choreographers present new dance compositions, often live music, with poetry, and/or dramatic performances that communicate from the stage to the audience. All original choreography chosen for the concert is dynamic and powerful; it fits the vision of Dances at MuCCC: to empower local performing artists who seek accessible venues for their original creations and to share contemporary dance and live music with local community members.

The 3rd entry in the "Beethoven, Bravura and Beyond" series features my most playful program yet, consisting of short to medium length works that traverse many styles and eras. Beethoven's Electoral Sonata No. 3 in D major contains his first masterpiece: a set of charming variations that make up its central movement. To celebrate this early achievement, the rest of the program will feature several sets of variations, including those on a popular tune that will appear both before and after intermission. Come and be dazzled, moved, and maybe a little challenged by a completely unique recital.

Commotion Dance Theater presents new works by Ruben T. Ornelas and Laurie MacFarlane. Ornelas’ work highlights the music of Mexican and European composers performed live by musicians Kevin Wang, Cynthia Qiyue He, and Esther Rogers Baker.

MacFarlane will present a solo set to a story by the late, great John W. Borek, and a trio which features 37 red objects and an original sound score by Dan Farkas.

Experience a miniature history of stop motion animation in this shorts program. Though stop motion animation could be created to depict just about anything, filmmakers often revisit similar subjects. In these shorts which range from the 1920s to the 1980s, we see how stop motion caters to imaginative scenarios, such as fairy tales and fantasy, as well as its potential usage for experimental film.

Cynthia and I will be providing music for The Frogs Who Wanted a King (Wladyslaw Starewicz, USSR, 1922, 9 min., 16mm) and The Magic Clock (Wladyslaw Starewicz, USSR, 1928, 45 min., 16mm).

The second recital in the series centers on Beethoven's Electoral Sonata No. 2, which is in minor key. To match its bold and fiery character, two other sonatas in minor will be featured: one by Beethoven's most important teacher, Christian Neefe; the other by an accomplished student of Beethoven, Carl Czerny; both sonatas are rarely heard in recital halls, while being of excellent musical quality. The rest of the program contains fugues galore, culminating in a large orchestral fugue by Beethoven himself.

Come listen to the beginning of a series of recitals that will embody a voyage through the vast sea of piano literature, using Beethoven’s major works as the compass. This first recital contains the perfect program for beginner listeners and experts alike. It will tell the story of Beethoven’s life through the works of 6 different composers, and feature a performance of Beethoven’s very first piano sonata, written when he was 12 years old! The final piece in the program will astound you beyond belief.

Come hear and learn about Arma Harkness, a now-forgotten violinist who was born in Williamson, NY, and went on to lead a remarkable career in Europe. The recital will start with a quick presentation on Arma's life. Afterwards, the program will consist of timeless masterpieces for violin and piano that she had performed in her life, as well as works written by her contemporaries that were dedicated to her. The evening is going to be a meaningful and enjoyable experience for everyone!
